Affordable Romantic Getaways in Florida

1. Hawks Cay Resort

My best friend Soniya, recently got married, and I gifted her a hotel reservation at Hawks Cay Resort in the Florida Keys, one of the best couple retreat spots in Florida.

The tropical tranquility with a luxury setting is all she needed! If you’re a couple who loves getting up late, lazing around, and having a luxurious breakfast, yet leading an active life for the rest of the day, this resort is a must-visit place.

It is a 60-acre property on Duck Key Island where you can enjoy fishing, various water sports activities, play golf, and most interestingly, swim with dolphins.

Yes, you can participate in a private Dolphin Trainer for a Day program to learn together and see the Atlantic bottlenose dolphins and the beautiful views around.

With neutral accents, stylish artwork, and plenty of tropical plants, as well as ample seating areas, pools, and saltwater lagoon, Hawks Cay Resort is a stage for a relaxing and rejuvenating stay.

Tips: Book the Caribbean-style spa retreat for both of you

2. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Orlando

Let your partner see your inner child getting excited at the sight of Mickey and Minnie at the famous Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is quite different; this themed resort at Walt Disney World takes you to reside in an African savannah setting where even 200 animals live on the property with you.

The rooms deserve a special mention – hand-carved furnishings are so unique. Also, when you wake up and go to your balcony, you’ll see giraffes walking by! Get ready to spot exotic birds, wildebeests, and more! Aren’t you excited for such a weekend adventure yet romantic stay?

The Lodge is divided into two areas – Jambo House and Kidani Village. You need to book in advance to get rooms. Both are equally unique in their way. In the lobby area, there is a large mud fireplace with a cozy sitting area where I guarantee you would spend time watching Disney cartoons with your partner. This place is a true gem!

3. Ponte Vedra Beach

Ponte Vedra Beach is a perfect budget-friendly romantic escape destination in Florida for an oceanfront week, where a few couples enjoy wedding experiences against the backdrop of a glistening white sand beach.

Once in my life, I witnessed such an early morning wedding, with the sun slowly rising over the Atlantic Ocean, the soothing sound of crashing waves, and only close friends and family members in attendance.

Can you afford to miss out on this romantic place in Florida? Ponte Vedra Beach is nestled between Jacksonville and St. Augustine, making it one of the hidden romantic gems in Florida.

At the beach, you’ll encounter fewer locals and backpackers, allowing you to fully enjoy the serene atmosphere.

There are a few yellow umbrellas placed where you can sit and simply relax. I recommend booking a stay at Ponte Vedra Inn & Club; the setting itself is very welcoming and romantic. The palm trees surrounding it, along with the fountain and terracotta roofs, create a Hollywood-like romantic setting.

4. Sunset Key Cottages, Sunset Key

A secluded 27-acre Florida island, Sunset Key, sits just off the coast of Key West and can only be reached by a shuttle boat. It is a private island where only 48 families stay, and out of those, 21 houses are vacant.

You won’t find any grocery stores or malls—nothing at all. I hope you understand how offbeat and remote Sunset Key is! However, if you book a stay at Sunset Cottage at Opal Key Resort & Marina, you can experience the island’s rawness with your partner.

Here you’ll stay amidst the bougainvillea and exotic orchids, sitting on an Adirondack chair at the open veranda and watching the garden, swaying palm trees, blue sea, and complete peace. The rooms are fully equipped with amazing amenities.

Tip: Minimum $45 per night stay

5. Stock Island

Couples dreaming of enjoying the “old Keys” flavor should check out Stock Island. Max and I were here from December 13th – 15th to attend the “I Love Stock Island Festival”. During this, you can enjoy the yummy culinary culture, live music, art studio tours, a holiday boat parade and so much more!

I also recommend checking out “Taste of Stock Island” where you’ll be taken through a guided exploration of local cuisines. If you’re like us, a food couple, you’ll love their culinary scene.

You’ll also enjoy the waterfront properties, spending evenings at the shipyards, or watching the commercial fishermen doing their jobs. Stock Island is again another offbeat location and you should check it out!

If you want to buy souvenirs, come to Washed Up, you’ll find “upcycled” wooden furniture fine art, and other jewelry designs. Sometimes, you can spend around the turquoise green water, and mangrove islands, enjoying the air.

Tips:

  • Try Key West pink shrimp
  • Have Cuban lunch at El Mocho

6. Amelia Island

If you’re in search of secluded shores, lush vegetation like Spanish moss-covered oak trees, and biking trails, welcome to Amelia Island in North Florida. This East Coast Barrier Island is ideal for couples dreaming of a horseback ride on the beach. During our first-anniversary trip, Max and I came here for a sunset ride, and trust me, it was such an amazing experience!

The horse was trotting on the shallow water while we enjoyed playful splashes. In the morning, we went on kayaking tours through the desert dunes and took many pictures! Indeed, it is one of the most affordable romantic getaways in Florida.

At night, we enjoyed seaside live music and food (we booked all these activities through a tour company). If you want to explore on your own, I highly recommend taking the Downtown Tasting Tour through Fernandina Beach, which offers 2.5 hours of Booze and Bites tour.

Unfortunately, we missed it because it wasn’t included in our package, but we’ll be back to experience it! Also, for people who are in search of liberal places to live in Florida, you can check this place out!

Tip: Stay at The Ritz Carlton, for an amazing experience with a spa, and pool with an ocean view

7. Delnor Wiggins Pass State Park, Naples

Delnor Wiggins Pass State Park, a 166-acre park in Southwest Florida, is the perfect place for sun worshippers who love lazy strolls beneath the sea grapes and along natural beaches. The best part is that you’ll find seashells on the beach, but please note that dogs and picnics are not allowed.

For a more remote experience, walk down the natural trail to reach an observation deck overlooking mangrove forests, where you can enjoy sweeping views of the beach and nature. Hiking-loving couples can take the Observation Tower trail to enjoy a beach walk and immerse themselves in nature simultaneously.

Delnor Wiggins Pass State Park is a Gulf Coast beach where you can also enjoy snorkeling and fishing. I saw fishermen catching sea trout, snook, red drum, and many more. There is a rare Gulf Coast snorkeling spot here, although please be aware of new rules due to recent storms.

Tip: Due to Hurricane Ian’s destruction, the parking is limited, but it is one of the romantic value for money Florida’s destination

8. Dry Tortugas National Park

Don’t you want to experience a National Park that’s 70 miles away from civilization and can only be accessed by seaplane or boat? Because I’m always up for such a romantic adventure! It’s located in Key West and boasts incredible untouched natural beauty, exotic wildlife, blue waters, pristine beaches, and an ancient fortress.

This tropical location is also home to nurse sharks. Dry Tortugas’ Shark Special Protection Zone is where you’ll find this unique shark species. It’s also where you can observe sandy shoals, marine life, and a plethora of birds.

9. Rosemary Beach

Imagine you and your partner sitting by Rosemary Beach on a cool night, sipping wine, and watching the sunset. It’s not by chance that it has been ranked as the 6th most Romantic Town in America by CNN Travel.

The cobblestone streets and architecture are bound to give you a European vibe in Florida. You’ll also love hopping around the open-air cafes and restaurants, indulging in seafood and other unique items from the menu chart.

Additionally, there’s a secret spot for deep-sea fishing where you both can have fun fishing together and grill your catch later for lunch. There are also bike trails for you to enjoy riding and create lasting memories.

I recommend walking at night by the beach when the moon casts its light on the water and creates beautiful shadows. This is indeed one of the free date night ideas I’ve for you. You can book gulf-front beach rentals for an even more romantic experience and have the best time of your life with your partner.

10. Seaside

Along the Florida Panhandle sits Seaside, one of the most idyllic towns with perfect weather. The setting is no less than a Hollywood set. The Truman Show was shot here, so be sure not to skip the hotspots where the film was shot. Explore the place!

The town is extremely walkable, and you don’t need a car to get around. The beach with its white sand and blue water is right in front of you. Seaside is the perfect destination to hold hands and stroll around the streets, enjoying ice creams and mouth-watering food from the restaurants.

But that’s not the biggest draw; the biggest draw is its vacation homes and some luxury residential-style homes with white picket fences facing the sea. Seaside does not have hotels, hence the stays are something unique and romantic, giving you all the privacy you want!

The Florida Panhandle stands out as one of the most breathtaking places on Earth. If you’re in search of an enchanting location to build your dream home, this is the place to explore. Come discover the beauty for yourself!

11. Madeira Beach

Near St. Petersburg and Clearwater sits Madeira Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the United States, ranked 9th by TripAdvisor. Locals also refer to it as “Mad Beach.” Moreover, you’re going to love the calm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and its pristine sandy beach. This is yet another cheap romantic vacation spot in Florida.

This place is all about relaxation and soaking up the sun. If you want, you can go to enjoy John’s Pass Village and Boardwalk for shopping and purchasing things for your family. If you’re coming here, do not forget to explore Treasure Island.

During our visit, we booked a guide through Hubbard’s Marine who took us on a water guide tour, giving us a chance to catch snapper, yellowtail, hogfish, and more. John Pass Village offers fantastic entertainment options that I’m sure you’ll love to experience with your friends.

12. Casey Key

Casey Key is the dream destination for retirees and couples on the West Coast of Florida who want to escape the hustling and bustling city life. We were here to explore Oscar Scherer State Park and enjoy riding on the Legacy Trail.

This is indeed one of the hidden gems of Sarasota, perfect for a weekend of relaxation. You’ll find beach condos or seaside nooks to spend the night. If you want to enroll in activities, you’ll need to buy a beach pass that allows you to go swimming, boating, parasailing, and much more. However, we were here for just one day to rejuvenate our souls.

13. St. George Island

St. George Island is a beautiful 22-mile barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico, which is untouched and one of the forgotten, romantic places to visit in Florida. From swimming, fishing, and paddling, to relaxing and enjoying the breathtaking views, this place is perfect for family activities.

There are many art galleries, boutiques, and cute shops where you can find your treasure gift item to gift your partner. Importantly, this place is a pet paradise, so all pet parents, can bring their pooch and have fun at the beach.

St. George Island is equipped for perfect date night activities, like having dinner at The Blue Parrot or Paddy’s Raw Bar. I highly recommend coming to Paddy’s Raw Bar and ordering Apalachicola Oysters with live music playing in the background.

14. Indian Rocks Beach

Coastal Living magazine ranked Indian Rocks Beach as the top spot for “gorgeous beaches and Old Florida vibes.” This is one of our favorite affordable couple retreats in Florida that offers unspoiled views of the Gulf of Florida and white sands.

You can sit on the beach, look at the horizon, and enjoy the quietness as the sun rises. Even quietness is essential in a relationship to understand its depth and comfort. You can also have a romantic lunch or dinner by the beach. There is no way you can get bored!

After lunch, take a walk around the town to visit some Nature Preserves and explore. The boardwalks and the mangroves can provide you with some Instagram-perfect photos! For budget-friendly food, head to Kooky Coconut or Jake’s Coastal Cantina.

15. Highway 17 (Punta Gorda to Winter Haven)

Couples looking for romantic Florida road trips should try Highway 17, the most scenic and less congested route. This road takes you through the best of Old Florida – cattle country, wetlands, rivers, and some cute towns.

The ride is approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes (86 miles), but you can stretch it by taking halts, exploring towns, having food, taking pictures, and, in the end, communicating and talking.

I would recommend spending the night in Winter Haven so that the next morning you can go wakeboarding, kayaking, fishing, and enjoy other activities by the lakeside. If you have time, come to LEGOLAND Florida for some fun games and a 360-degree view of Central Florida.

16. Hontoon Island Park

Do you want to experience camping under the sky with your partner? Welcome to Hontoon Island Park, located on the St. Johns River in Central Florida. At this spot, you’ll find rustic cabins that will offer you a forest vibe.

The place has a lot of cypress and oak trees, ideal for picnics and enjoying nature. There is also a small museum on the site where you can take your child. There are shady hammocks on the site, making it ideal to relax in the lap of nature.

17. Miami

Miami is undoubtedly one of the most expensive places in Florida, but the best part is that it has something for everyone! If you’re in search of affordable options, you’ll find those too. I recommend coming here in late February when Miamians celebrate the South Beach Food and Wine Festival.

Also, during this time, the days are sun-filled, and you’ll enjoy strolling along Miami Beach and visiting the gorgeous garden at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden to see an array of flora and fauna. Trust me, Miami is one of Americans’ most affordable Florida honeymoon options.

This place is also home to more than 50 species of butterflies. Miami is a place for people of all ages. If you’re a party person, there are hundreds of nightclubs, a super chic metropolis, cutting-edge restaurants, poolside lounges, and much more. Backpackers love coming to Lummus Park to learn about the architectural styles of Florida.

Tip: You can also come to South Pointe Pier for fishing.
